Researchers from Budapest University of Technology and Economics are eligible to publish their papers open access with several publishers without paying APCs through the read and publish agreements of the Hungarian Electronic Information Service National Programme (EISZ). The free OA publishing option is available until the consortium reaches the quota of the agreements.
Details on the agreements as well as instructions for authors on OA publishing according to Hungarian consortium agreements are available on the website of EISZ.
The opportunity of APC-free open access publishing is available for corresponding authors from BME, according to the given publisher’s policy, after the submission or their articles are accepted. When you submit an article, you must name the corresponding author eligible for OA and his/her BME affiliation. You are recommended to use an email address ending in bme.hu. The eligibility of authors is automatically identified by the following indicators:
- institutional email (.bme.hu)
- affiliation with BME
- submission from institutional IP range
- ORCID
By publishing open access, authors can retain their copyrights. Accordingly, they should choose from the following Creative Commons licenses: CC-BY, CC-BY-NC and CC-BY-NC-ND.
ACM Digital Library
In accordance with the agreement between the university and the publisher, Article Processing Charges are funded 100 % for the researchers of BME.
- The affiliation of the corresponding author is Budapest University of Technology and Economics.
- The article’s date of acceptance is between 1 January and 31 December 2024.
- The agreement applies to particular journals and articles published in Conference Proceedings Series. About its terms and the agreement’s validity of a conference, please reach out to the organizers of the conference. More detail

Akadémiai Kiadó
The agreement with the Akadémiai Kiadó covers 100% of the open access publishing fee (APC) for BME researchers, according to the eligibility criteria below.
- Affiliation of the corresponding author is from BME
- The date of acceptance of the article is between 1st January 2024 and 31st December 2024
- Certain gold and hybrid journals are covered: list of journals
- Original research papers and Review articles are eligible
- The necessary statement for the submission: EISZ-AK Open Access statement
- Eligible authors are identified by their email domain (.bme.hu) and their affiliation.

American Chemical Society
The agreement with the American Chemical Society (ACS) covers 100% of the open access publishing fee (APC) for BME researchers, according to the eligibility criteria below.
- Affiliation of the corresponding author is from BME
- The date of acceptance of the article is between 1st January 2024 and 31st December 2024
- Both hybrid and gold open access journals are covered: list of journals
- Research papers are eligible
- Eligible authors are identified by their email domain (.bme.hu)
- After the article is accepted, the author receives a confirmation by e-mail, which contains a link to the Copyright Clearance Center website. Here you can apply for open access publishing by choosing the “Seek funding from Hungarian Electronic Information Service National Programme” option. Guide

Elsevier
The agreement with the Elsevier covers 100% of the open access publishing fee (APC) for BME researchers, according to the eligibility criteria below.
- Affiliation of the corresponding author is from BME. The correspondent author of the article is the author who submits the manuscript and performs all administrative tasks during the publication.
- The date of acceptance of the article is between 1st January 2024 and 31st December 2024.
- Certain hybrid and gold open access journals are covered: list of journals
- Eligible article type: Case reports, Data in Briefs, Full-length articles, Micro-articles, Original software publication, Practice guidelines, Protocols, Review articles, Replication studies, Short communications, Short surveys, Video articles
- Eligible authors are identified by the name of the institute, which can be chosen after the article has been accepted. Guide

The agreement with Wiley covers 100% of the open access publishing fee (APC) for BME researchers, according to the eligibility criteria below.

- Research papers are eligible (Original Article, Original Research, Research Paper, Review Paper)

Cancelled agreements
IEEE
The university has not extended the agreement with the publisher in 2024; accordingly, publishing open access in the publisher’s journals is no longer covered for the authors of BME.
Consultation
We provide the opportunity of a personal consultation for researchers of the institution regarding the process of scientific publication and Open Access publishing.
Appointments can be booked in the following registration interface by selecting Open Access publication within the Publication management service. You can participate in the consultations individually or in groups. In case of a group consultation, the registration of one person is sufficient. Please write the names of the other participants in the Comment field.
